Walter Tran born April 21st 1986, stage name "Lilman West" is a Hip-Hop artist, rapper, and musician from Orange County, California. Born into a refugee family, his parents escaped Vietnam during the war and the Fall of Saigon in 1975. Immigrating to the United States by boat, his family settled down in Arizona. Growing up in his adolescent years, he experienced domestic violence from his father, which in turn led his mother to take him and his siblings to move to Orange County, California. Even with the transition to Orange County, Lilman faced much hardship and struggles that are common within immigrant families. Surrounded by the subsiding violence of gang and delinquency culture that was prominent during that time period in Little Saigon, Lilman found himself in the midst of two positionalities. Lilman found his escape through poetry and music at the age of fourteen and released his first recorded track at the age of seventeen. Differentiating from contemporary Hip-Hop, Rap, and Gangsta Rap musical styles that were prominent during that time period, Lilman wrote and rapped about his life, struggles, hardships, family, friends, and community. Inspired by his longtime friend "Weegee", Lilman continued to pursue his passion which eventually led him to partner with local Orange County Producer and Mixer Tommy Nguyen alias, "TomTom". Together they founded Take Money Music INC. now known as West West Entertainment. Before founding his own record label, Lilman partnered with Mansion of Mayhem a local Orange County recording studio and production company. Working with Tommy, Lilman gained national attention from different under served and under resourced communities from his song "Let's Get High". The hit single brought together countless people across the United States and soon after Lilman released multiple tracks such as "Hatahz", "Something's Changed", "Live My Life", and "Dear Mom". These tracks further elevated him to be able to reach out and touch people's hearts. Lilman has performed at local Orange County venues such as the All Star Lounge, Malone, El Patio, 7Seas Bar and Grill, and Pachanga. He has also been sponsored by Hennessy Cognac and is working on a compilation of past songs, a current mixtape, and album release. Lilman's music continues to make issues within the Southeast Asian American Community more transparent and inspires an upcoming generation to lead with their hearts and minds. WEST.
